Retail therapy just got a whole lot hotter in Brisbane with the recent revamp of the Wintergarden shopping precinct.  Alongside the stylish new fashion tenancies occupied by the likes of Coach, Cue and Ben Sherman, Wintergarden is now home to some seriously spruced up dining venues, including old faithful Hanaichi, and now….Australia’s largest Grill’d!

Open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week, Grill’d Wintergarden is like no other Grill’d store you’ve been to.  Take your standard suburban Grill’d and super-size it!  This concept restaurant has a whole lot of funk and appeal, firstly by way of a big fat bar, serving big fat beers and cocktails.  The big winner for me was the slushy cider machine.  Yum!

The huge Grill’d Wintergarden premises, with funky booth seating, large beer hall-style share tables and a view over the mall will cater for the masses that descend from the surrounding retail shops and offices at lunch, and will no doubt attract packs of suits and non-suits alike on a Friday evenings.  With live entertainment, the aforementioned bar and a huge range of menu options there’s no reason this place won’t go nuts.  I was lucky enough to be invited to the grand opening where there was plenty of fuss made and plenty of great food floating around, and it wasn’t just burgers!  The Grill’d Wintergarden menu has ‘nibbles’ such as lamb, pork and chicken meatballs with tasty dipping sauces, as well as premium selections of olives and warm nuts to accompany a cool ale or cider.

As far as the burgers go, if you’re familiar with the Grill’d menu, you’ll know what exciting options are in store.  For those who aren’t, you can expect the unexpected from the Grill’d Wintergarden burger menu as they’ve given their creative buttons a serious push, with options like Big Queenslander ($13.50) a grilled grass fed lean beef patty, tasty cheese, crispy trim bacon, free range egg, beetroot, salad, relish and mayo.  The Caeser’s Palace ($12.50) was one of my faves, with grilled chicken breast, crispy trim bacon, free range egg, shaved parmesan, baby cos and Caeser dressing.  There are a range of lamb, beef, chicken and vegie burgers with tantalizing fillings and you can also get ‘snack burgers’, hot chips, salads and cool meals for kids too.
